How Much Are Storage Containers To Buy?

Thursday 23 January 2020 Filed in: General

Thinking about buying a storage container but not sure if it's affordable? Most people are pleasantly surprised when they find out the cost of a storage container is less than they thought. Buy wisely and you can get a quality purchase that will give you many years of trouble free, low maintenance dry and secure storage from a shipping container. For more specialist storage, such as chemical storage containers, a few procedures need to be carried out on a basic container to make it compliant, or if you need a container for uses other than storage. With container conversions becoming increasingly popular these days, uses other than storage are common. These additional costs should be costed in clear and transparent terms by any reputable container retailer. At Containers Direct we give you the prices of the basic container, from 5ft units all the way up to 45ft, along with a menu of optional extras that are clearly costed for each size.

Standard storage containers

20ft and 40ft shipping containers are standard sizes manufactured from new, mostly in China. They are sold off when they reach UK ports, without any need for modification if used solely for storage. These are the cheapest to buy per foot. You can buy either new shipping containers (one trip only), or used shipping containers, where they have made multiple sea faring journeys carrying cargo. A used container is a lot cheaper to buy than new, and as long as you buy from a reputable retailer, they will be structurally sound and watertight. They will show signs of wear and tear, and cosmetic damage, but this can be easily covered up with a repaint and won't affect the performance of the container. Containers Direct give a year's warranty with all used containers.

How much are storage containers that have been modified?

A shipping container opens up so many possibilities beyond its use as a basic storage container! Add in a good condensation buster such as Grafotherm, or ply lining and insulation to banish condensation completely, shelving, and electrics and you have a top notch storage container. The doors can also be modified to give easier access (see our flat panel doors especially designed for storage), or doors can be created in the side of the container. For a full list of container optional extras/modifications and prices see Customising Your Container. Please note: some modification costs will be worked out based on the size of the container.

For container conversions – containers converted for uses other than storage – these are usually bespoke builds with POA. For some examples of the fantastic conversion work carried out at Containers Direct, see our Case Studies page. These include workshops, catering units, offices and garages. High end conversions features can include wood cladding and patio style doors.
