Shipping containers make ideal portable spaces for schools or leisure centres when temporary or secure changing rooms are needed. Our client, the Bolton Indian Sports Club, wanted to create an outdoor space based on three 40ft containers: an office with toilets, a male and female changing rooms and a bar/canteen to serve visitors at the games. These containers were laid out in a horse-shoe shape, with a decked area in the middle to connect them.

This unit was split into two, with an office section to one end and a toilet section including two toilet cubicles, two sinks and a hand dryer in the other. Both areas were accessed via external personnel doors, fully melamine lined and insulated, and overlaid with a vinyl floor, with electrics installed to the customer's specifications. The office section was fitted with windows with anti-vandal shutters, with the toilet section fitted with high level privacy windows. Although the container retained the original container doors, these were welded shut for security.
This container was divided down the middle with two personnel doors to access the male and female changing rooms separately. These containers were melamine lined and insulated, overlaid with a vinyl floor and fitted with high level windows and electrics. Timber benches were fitted around the edges of the rooms with coat hooks above.
For the Kitchen/Bar area, we again melamine lined and insulated the entire box, and overlaid the existing ply floor with vinyl. For the bar area, to easily serve people outside, we installed an electric roller shutter hatch. The interior was then completed with breakfast bar style seating around the edges, and a canteen section to the other half for food preparation and cleaning.
